Bass Diary Entry
Another huge favourite of mine from Meteora, this track comes straight after Somewhere I Belong on the album, and the transition between the two songs keeps the energy levels sky high. It’s one of those album sequences that just sticks with you, especially when you’ve listened to the record front to back as many times as I have over the years.
The song itself carries so much emotional energy, and when that chorus hits, everything just lifts to another level. It’s aggressive, melodic, and cathartic all at once — something Linkin Park absolutely mastered during this era. It’s the kind of chorus that demands to be sung at full volume, whether you’re in a crowd at a show or just listening through headphones.
And then there’s the breakdown. That riff is just monstrous, and it never gets old. No matter how many times I come back to this song, that section still hits just as hard, and it’s one of those moments that made Meteora such an important album for me growing up.
From a bass perspective, the track does a brilliant job of reinforcing the heaviness without overcrowding the mix, sitting perfectly between the electronic elements and guitars. When everything locks together, it creates that huge wall of sound that defined so much of Linkin Park’s early success and still makes these songs so satisfying to play along with today.
