Bass Diary Entry
This was actually one I completely missed when it first released, as around that period I’d drifted more towards heavier rock and metal and wasn’t keeping up with bands I’d previously listened to. It ended up slipping past me entirely, which feels strange in hindsight given how much I enjoyed the band before that point.
It wasn’t until I got back into playing Rock Band after Rock Band 4 released that I started revisiting a lot of songs and artists I’d moved away from. That’s when I properly discovered this track — almost a decade after it first came out — and it felt like finding an absolute gem that had been waiting there all along.
More recently, the song took on an even heavier emotional weight for me. I remember putting it on when the news broke about Brad Arnold’s cancer diagnosis and hoping he’d be able to pull through. Sadly, that wasn’t to be, but the song itself still carries such an uplifting message — about resilience, hope, and refusing to give up when life throws its worst at you.
Revisiting and transcribing it now feels like a small tribute as well as a reminder of how powerful simple, heartfelt songwriting can be. Sometimes songs arrive in your life exactly when you need them, even if that happens years later.
