Listen To The Original Track

Before you dive into the sheet music, press play below and pay close attention to the sheer dynamic power of the bass entering right at the end of the first verse to launch the band into the chorus.

Song Structure:

Before getting into the song structure below, it is worth noting that the above is the music video which slightly shorter than the studio version, so I have based the timings on the studio version of the song (pasted below the song structure for reference as well).

  • 0:00 – Intro: The iconic drum beat and roaring guitar hook set the stage. The bass is completely resting here. Do not be tempted to play; let the stadium-rock tension build up.
  • 0:23 – Verse 1: Robbie’s vocal struts in. Still no bass for the majority of the verse. Wait patiently until the final bar, where you finally drop in with a heavy, driving fill to launch the band into the first hook.
  • 0:38 – Chorus 1: The bass explodes into the mix. Play huge, driving roots with a swaggering glam-rock rhythm. Dig in and keep it punchy.
  • 0:53 – Verse 2: The bass stays in this time, locking in tight with the kick drum to give the verse a bouncing, aggressive undercurrent that wasn’t there before.
  • 1:09 – Chorus 2: Back to the massive hook. Make sure every note speaks clearly against the wall of guitars.
  • 1:24 – Verse 3: Maintain the attitude and deep pocket. The bass dictates the swagger and pacing of this section.
  • 1:39 – Bridge 1: A rhythmic shift. Follow the syncopated stabs and let the space between the notes be just as impactful as the hits themselves.
  • 1:55 – Chorus 3: Pure stadium rock. Keep your right-hand stamina up and play the eighth notes with absolute conviction.
  • 2:18 – Bridge 2: Another dynamic shift. Hold down the foundation firmly as the arrangement swirls around you.
  • 2:33 – Breakdown: The energy drops. Play strictly what is necessary, laying low and saving your energy for the final explosion.
  • 2:48 – Chorus 4: The biggest chorus of the song. Throw everything you have into the attack here; you are the engine of the band.
  • 3:19 – Bridge 3: Pushing the momentum toward the climax. Keep it completely locked to the snare and kick.
  • 3:35 – Outro: The grand finale. Keep the driving rhythm completely relentless. As the track hits 3:58, begin to smoothly ease up on your attack to mirror the recorded fade-out.

Bass Diary Entry

This one is the big one for me.

“Let Me Entertain You” is my most popular transcription to date on Ultimate Guitar and the song that continues to bring the most traffic to my site. I first sat down and properly dissected this bassline around nine years ago (December 2016), spending hours going over every section to make sure it was as accurate as possible. It wasn’t something I rushed — this line demanded attention, stamina, and precision to get right.

Fast forward nine years, and the tab has had a light polish. Nothing drastic — just refining what was already there, tightening things up, and making sure it’s once again ready for people to learn, play, and enjoy.

As for the song itself, I remember hearing “Let Me Entertain You” as a kid and being instantly pulled in by the sheer energy of it. This track doesn’t ease you in — it explodes from the start and never really lets up. The bassline is a huge part of that intensity, driving the song relentlessly and giving you a serious workout trying to keep up with its pace. It’s energetic, physical, and demands full commitment from the player.

That combination — nostalgia, raw energy, and a bassline that pushes you — is exactly why this transcription has stuck with me for so long. It’s incredibly satisfying to play, and knowing how many other bassists have learned it over the years makes this one especially rewarding to revisit.

Session Notes: Tone & Technique

The Groove & Harmony

“Let Me Entertain You” is built entirely on attitude and dynamic contrast. The bass line leans heavily into a classic glam-rock feel (think Queen or KISS), driving the track with aggressive eighth notes and punchy octave leaps. The most important technique here is restraint; the song’s massive impact comes from the fact that the bass sits out completely during the intro and most of the first verse. When you finally come in, you need to hit the fretboard with absolute confidence and lock perfectly with the pounding kick drum.

Emulating the Stadium Rock Tone

To get that massive, cutting rock tone that glues the roaring guitars and drums together, focus on punch and clarity:

  • Fresh Roundwound Strings: You need a lot of top-end zing and metallic clank to cut through a mix this dense.
  • Use a Pick (or aggressive fingerstyle): A pick will give you the sharpest, most consistent attack for those driving eighth notes. If you play fingerstyle, dig in hard right over the bridge pickup.
  • Boost the Low-Mids: To keep the bass sounding thick without getting muddy, boost your low-mids (around 250Hz – 500Hz). This gives the bass the “punch in the chest” quality needed for stadium rock.
