I was definitely late to the party with YUNGBLUD. It wasn’t until the Ozzy Osbourne (who actually features in the music video for this song) / Black Sabbath farewell show that I properly took notice — and that cover of Changes was unreal. From there, with my wife already getting into his music, it felt inevitable I’d end up diving in too.
This was one of the first tracks that really stood out to me.
There’s something about The Funeral that just clicks straight away. It’s got that slightly chaotic, tongue-in-cheek energy, but underneath it all is a seriously well-crafted song. It walks that line between playful and dark in a way that feels effortless.
And that chorus… it’s one of those that just lodges itself in your brain instantly.
The best part for me though is how it’s crept into everyday life. I’m always singing random bits around the house, and when I was singing this the other day, got to the end of the chorus — “Nobody came, what a…” — my daughter jumped in with “shame, shame, shame”, it was one of those little moments that just sticks with you. That’s when you know a song’s got something.
